Forklift engines are designed to be and tough and rugged. They often need to be operational for many hours on end. In some settings the forklifts are operational 24 hours per day with shift work drivers in constant operation. The forklifts need to be well maintained and serviced by qualified forklift mechanics.
Maybe you are mechanically minded and inclined and like to work on things that are motor powered? If you have a fond love of forklifts and like to drive and operate them you could well be ideally suited to become a mechanic to look after those forklift engines.
In order to be a forklift mechanic, you will need to go to a mechanic trade school and learn the systems involved in running a forklift including the motor, electrical system, hydraulic system and also all other operating systems. You will need to know what makes them work, and how they are put together. You will have to study and practice building forklift engine as well as working on many different types of forklifts. A mechanic is usually a great trade to be involved in as they are always in demand and able to earn a good living.
If you are going to be working on forklift engines you really need to have the correct qualifications. Unfortunately too many back yard or self taught mechanics are working on forklift engines. This is an area of concern and companies who allow this could be in trouble for negligence should someone become injured as a result of a non qualified person working on a forklift engine. Forklift engines, just like any other engine change as new technology is introduced and a mechanic needs to be up to date with all new advancements in technology.
Anyone with the right mind set can be a forklift mechanic. However, for some it just comes naturally, and others have to work harder at it. But if you know that this is something that you want and that you are serious about, you are going to be able to make it happen and you could be working on forklift engines in no time.
